As the Mr and Miss UCC Pageant approaches, everyone looks forward to seeing the ladies and gentlemen who are the true embodiment of the theme ‘Royal Innovation’. On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean hosted its second-to-last rehearsal ahead of the upcoming pageant on January 25, 2026. All contestants present displayed poise, elegance, determination, and spirit.
Despite having to compete against each other, contestants showed support and camaraderie, which was a truly heartwarming sight, as they showed that competition wasn’t just about coming out on top but also about good sportsmanship. The overall atmosphere of the workshop was vibrant and bustling with joy and anticipation for the big day.
As the rehearsal progressed, a few contestants were interviewed, each individual having something interesting to remark. All had their unique character displayed through their intelligent responses.
Paige Wallen, contestant #17, a bright and jovial spirit, spoke of her journey building her confidence and taking on this experience as a way to further express herself. “Just because one bus passed doesn’t mean that it’s the final bus.” This was her response when asked, “What are a few words you’d like to share with students who thought about entering but didn’t?” She went on to further express how this experience allowed her to network, further build on her character and confidence, exclaiming that some experiences should be given a try at least once in a lifetime.
Her colleague and competitor, Kayla Landells, contestant #8, shared a similar sentiment. She’s a diligent activist, proactive in her desire to help others through her project ‘Faith Fueled Youth’, and she aims to empower the next generation. Ms. Landells has expressed how this new endeavor has provided a space to connect with like-minded individuals and a sense of belonging. “It is better to go through that process than it is to sit down and say what if.” Despite the initial apprehension that never deterred her from giving this competition a 100% than living with possible regret later on.
The ladies have shown great promise; however, the gentlemen have proven to be just as capable. Roshane Gordon, contestant #14, remarked that this pageant isn’t just his ten minutes of fame but a stepping stone to building on his confidence as a more reserved person. He has expressed how this experience has contributed to the growth of his character and how he carries himself, learning step by step as he progresses in the competition.
“Everything I wear will be my best outfit, from my casual to my creative wear, even my formal. It’s really a mixture of who Roshane Gordon is.” Mr. Gordon is an aspiring lawyer currently studying criminology. His soft-spoken and earnest nature sets him apart from his competitors. He’s made it clear you don’t have to be loud to be heard.
His competitor, Kyle Grant, contestant #19 a funny and friendly individual who truly enjoyed working alongside his fellow contestants. He expressed his joy about meeting new people, being around different personalities, and the enthusiastic positivity and support. Also, realising competition isn’t just about winning but pushing each other to do better, no matter who emerges the victor.
Mr. Grant has made remarks and observations he hopes to address if he were to be crowned Mr UCC; “I would try to push towards improving student life on campus. As I believe that some things could be improved…the campus doesn’t have much to do after school, meaning they’re only educationally focused. And for things such as clubs, a majority are inactive or don’t do much at all.” Mr. Grant has not only gained a new outlook from this experience but also hopes to make a difference within the institution.
Our contestants have spoken, each exuding confidence and determination, but also immense support for their fellow contestants. From what has been observed, each contestant is ready and willing to give their all in this competition. Both male and female contestants show great promise and have made their voices heard, so as the competition approaches, we all wait with great anticipation to see who will be crowned the next Mr and Miss UCC 2026.
